About the Vineyard
In the year of 1582 Princess Margherita d'Austria, daughter of Emperor Carlo the fifth and wife of Ottavio Farnese, bought the town of Ortona for 52,000 ducats. Charmed by the healthy air and by the beautiful lands she decided to build a palace on the sea to spend long resting periods. “Marghareta” (the name she loved being called) put a great effort into her fields in Abruzzo, especially in her vineyards, whose products became, in no time, appreciated on the banquets of the main european courts. As a sign of gratitude toward the one who made 'em famous in the world. The farmers held the name “Farnese” for their wines. Today the wine is cultivated in the very same vineyards, located in the evocative valley of the Moro river on the northern side with excellent sun-rays! The Mount Maiela, 3000mt height is only 30km far away from the sea, creating the perfect thermal environment to cultivate such excellent wines!
